Ramachandra Guha on Gandhi's views on caste, his difference with Ambedkar and religion
Ramachandra Guha has come out with his new book Gandhi: The Years That Changed the World 1914-1948 , which follows Gandhi Before India. It also comes from the fact that Gandhi was from an upper caste and looked at it with an upper-caste gaze. Ambedkar experienced the indignity and humiliation and had a much more intuitive understanding of the questions of caste. Gandhi's swachhta is highlighted but the fact that he wanted to be the cement between Hindus and Muslims gets sidelined.
